Documents ASSUMPTION UNIVERSITY ARCHIVES Description:
The Archives contain documents and material dating as far back as 1857
when the University was founded. The holdings are fairly extensive,
providing resources for students and faculty interested in discovering
more about the history of their school. Information in such areas as
education, religion and history is also available to the researcher. Description:
The Citizenship and Immigration Division issues
documents which permit people to immigrate, study, work or visit in Canada. Description:
The office processes applications for Canadian passports to foreign
destinations, and provides information on foreign consulates in Canada.
To obtain a passport, clients must have 2 passport photos taken by a
photographer according to specifications on the application. Some countries require other documents
before entry is permitted, such as an entry visa or internal travel
visa. The office accepts passport applications for Canadian citizens
living in the United States, in person only. Canadian passports are
valid for 5 years and a new passport must be obtained upon expiry. ONTARIO GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY Description: The Essex County Branch, one of 28 PTO branches across the province, assists in researching genealogies of county residents, using varied materials from their resource centre. Since its inception in 1979, ongoing projects include transcribing and recording the cemetery stones of Essex County, indexing the 1861 and 1901 census of Essex County, preserving local family records, indexing local parishes and compiling local history scrapbooks. The University library system consists of the Leddy Library, housing the
main collection and the Paul Martin Law Library, an autonomous,
associated library. The collection contains 2,200,000 volumes of print
material, 1,100,000 microform items and 350,000 government documents.
About 7,000 current periodicals and serials are received, including
important newspapers, both foreign and domestic. The library system has
extensive collections of Canadian (federal and provincial) government
documents and publications of major international organizations. A
complete range of photocopying, microform and audio-visual equipment is
available. Access to numerous databases is provided. The library is
fully automated. The on-line, public access catalogue is available
through terminals in the library or off-site, via personal microcomputer
and modem. Municipal Archives Central Library http://www.windsorpubliclibrary.com/ Description: The Municipal Archives is housed in the lower level of the Central Resource Library. It contains records from the municipality, its boards and commissions and annexed or amalgamated municipalities, which document local government and citizenry from 1854. A number of small collections of private manuscripts related to municipal affairs are also held, including records of the Essex County Children’s Aid Society. Other media collections include prints, posters, maps, plans, photographs, 8mm and 16mm films and pamphlets. |
