Description: The Greenhouse and Processing Crops Research Centre (GPCRC), located at Harrow, Ontario, is part of a national network of 19 research centres of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The Centre develops and transfers new technologies for production of greenhouse vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers), field-grown processing vegetables, soybeans and edible beans.

CITIZEN’S ENVIRONMENT ALLIANCE OF SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO

Description: The Alliance is a locally-based non-profit organization aimed at providing education and awareness for the general public on environmental issues and concerns. The group deals with all aspects of the ecosystem and land management, including air quality, water quality and the conservation of both energy and habitats.



ESSEX REGION CONSERVATION AUTHORITY

Description: The Authority has the goal of furthering the conservation of natural resources within the Essex Region, protecting and improving our natural environment. You will find information about all conservation areas in the region.



ESSEX-WINDSOR REGIONAL LANDFILL

Description: Public landfill. All loads must be tarped, and customer must bring own shovel and bags for compost. Mechanical loading is provided. Compost is available on Saturdays beginning in April while quantities last.

Description: Waste management programs including a recycling centre for the Blue Box Program and industrial/commercial and institutional recyclables like corrugated cardboard. A household chemical collection centre is available to dispose of any flammable, reactive, toxic or corrosive materials.

INTERNATIONAL JOINT COMMISSION

Description: The commission was set up to deal with questions of water quality/pollution, dam regulations and water levels and quantities between the United States and Canada.



MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE, FOOD AND RURAL AFFAIRS (Ontario)

Description: The office provides advisory information on livestock and crop problems from business management and general information on farming and government programs for farmers. The ministry provides yearly listings of dates and activities of agricultural societies and fall fairs involving special activities, displays and competitions. An agriphone line offers reports on topics such as major spray dates, trends in diseases, pesticide materials and irrigation resistance management strategies for fruit and vegetables. The program provides information about horticultural societies that meet on a regular basis to discuss topics for the amateur gardener. The office also offers information on 4-H programs for youths 10-21 years.
