CANADIAN FOOD INSPECTION AGENCY

Description: The Leamington Branch handles the inspection of local processing plants including fish processing facilities, fruit and vegetable within the province and fruits and vegetables both leaving and entering the province. Replies to inquiries from new businesses on fresh products are available.



CANADIAN FOOD INSPECTION AGENCY (Animal Health Division)

Description: The animal health division handles import and export inspection of animals, animal products and animal by-products (meat). The service checks animals for possible infections with rabies, as well as other reportable infectious diseases (tuberculosis, brucellosis).

Description: The Society is a referral service for the public that provides names of medical doctors accepting new patients. The service also handles complaints arising against physicians.



HEALTH CANADA (Division of Aging and Seniors, National Advisory Council on Aging)

Description: Organization publishes quarterly, bilingual newsletter “Briefs” for those involved in senior related issues, such as policy makers, program administrators, people working with seniors’ associations and voluntary and non-government organizations. HEALTH CANADA (Family Violence Prevention Unit, National Clearinghouse on Family Violence)

Description: The Family Violence Prevention Unit coordinates federal efforts in the area of family violence prevention. The concerns include violence against children, women and older adults. The National Clearinghouse on Family Violence has publications available for distribution. A video collection contains audio-visual productions on family violence. The National Film Board of Canada partner public libraries loan out these productions. HOSPICE OF WINDSOR AND ESSEX COUNTY INC

Description: Supportive care services and programs to patients and families who are facing a life-threatening illness. Nursing, diversional activities, social work, volunteer, pastoral care support and support groups. Visitations conducted in home, hospitals and care facilities. MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND LONG TERM CARE (Ontario)

Description: This service provides free and confidential one stop information and referral about funding programs for medical expenses, avenues for appeal process for denial of benefits, competency assessments, guardianship, power of attorney and related issues. They provide a wide range of social and community services available to vulnerable adults and their caregivers. Vulnerable adults are people who because of disability, medical condition, communication problems or age have difficulty expressing or acting upon their wishes.



OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH CLINIC FOR ONTARIO WORKERS

Description: The program provides medical assessments which include diagnosis for workplace injury, illness and disease. Educational information is available to the public on workplace hazards such as exposure to chemicals or noise, air quality and ergonomics for Ontario workers and helps develop strategies for improved working conditions.

WINDSOR-ESSEX COMMUNITY CARE ACCESS CENTRE (CCAC)

Description: Health care coordination service -- coordinates a wide range of in-home services to eligible clients including case management, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, personal support, nutritional counselling, speech language pathology and medical supplies and equipment. CCAC provides placement in long-term care facilities, home and school health, services for children with special needs, oncology program for terminally ill, assessments for government funded day away programs and supportive housing services. Case Managers determine eligibility for drug coverage under the Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) Plan.
