History

The Amherstburg, Anderdon and Malden Social Planning council was established in 1973 as a grass roots organization whose focus was to bring social services to the community where they could be easily accessed, particularly in recognition of the difficulties residents had with getting transportation to the larger city centres. It immediately began to oversee the operation of A.A.M. Community Services, a multi-service centre for a number of social service agencies and information and a referral for many others.

The group was incorporated as a non-profit, charitable organization in 1976. In 1981 it became a Member Agency of United Way. In 1998, to reflect municipal amalgamation, the agency was renamed "Amherstburg Community Services".

Thanks to the efforts of dedicated volunteers, services are provided locally , at the grass roots level, by people who know best the needs of people in this community, because they live here. Your continued patronage and support of the Amherstburg Community Services will ensure those needs will continue to be met effectively, efficiently and with a friendly local face.

If you would like to be a volunteer please call us (519)736-5471 or email us at: acs@bellnet.ca
