Description: Agency provides general information for regulations on people and goods coming in and out of the country. 24hour automated information line -- service can transfer a call to a customs officer for more specific information. NEXUS and FAST programs are designated to simplify border crossings for low-risk travelers, commuter, carriers and importers.

Description: Community Legal Aid (CLA) is a project of the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law. CLA provides free legal advice and representation to University of Windsor full-time undergraduates and low-income Essex County Residents. They handle the following legal matters:

  • Highway Traffic Act offences
  • Provincial offences
  • Landlord-Tenant matters
  • Criminal matters
  • Small claims
  • Name changes
  • Not-for-Profit incorporations
  • Criminal injuries compensation board matters
  • Criminal pardons
  • Student affairs

ONTARIO GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

Description: The Essex County Branch, one of 30 branches across the province and located in the Windsor Public Library, assists in researching genealogies of county residents, using varied materials from their resource centre. Since its inception in 1979, ongoing projects include transcribing and recording the cemetery stones of Essex County, indexing the census of Essex County, preserving local family records, indexing local parishes and compiling local history scrapbooks. The Branch houses a specialized genealogical library and a research aid is available.
