Senior Services CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF RETIRED PERSONS (Windsor-Essex County Chapter) Description: National advocacy group that represents Canadians, over the age of 50, retired or not, in Ottawa. Objective is to maintain the legislation to protect seniors. The economic benefits of membership offers reduced group rates for home, auto, and life insurance, an affinity credit card which provides reduced interest rates, subsidized bank services, discounts on a variety of services for seniors such as discounted eye wear and more. It encourages and facilitates research, planning and coordination of services, community education and advocacy on their behalf. The Council encourages active participation of older adults in the realization of its goals. The Seniors’ Guide to Federal Programs and Services provides a brief
description of the various federal programs and services. The booklet
also lists addresses and telephone numbers of federal government
departments relevant to seniors. It is available in English and French.
Division also produces the publication, Seniors Info Exchange. ORCA HOMES Description: ORCA is a voluntary, non-profit association established in 1977 that sets professional operating standards, inspects and accredits retirement residences in Ontario. SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT CANADA (Income Security Programs Canada Pension Plan/Old Age Security) http://www.sdc.gc.ca/en/gateways/nav/top_nav/program/isp.shtml Description: The program assists clients in determining eligibility and making application for benefits from Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS) for Disability Pension, Survivors’ Benefits, Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), Spouse’s Allowance, Orphan’s Benefits and disabled contributor’s Child’s Benefit. A regional toll-free phone service handles all inquiries.VETERANS AFFAIRS CANADA (Veterans Independence Program) http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/general/sub.cfm?source=services/vip Description: Under this Program, veterans may be eligible for financial help with home and health services. The Program is aimed at helping veterans maintain and improve their self-sufficiency and quality of life by assisting them to remain independent in their own homes or communities. The Program provides services such as: home nursing care, help in preparing meals, housekeeping duties, yard work, care at day centres and social transportation. If nursing home or personal/supervisory care is required, the Program may pay for care in an approved long term care facility.WINDSOR-ESSEX COMMUNITY CARE ACCESS CENTRE (CCAC) Description: Health care coordination service -- coordinates a wide range of in-home services to eligible clients including case management, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, personal support, nutritional counselling, speech language pathology and medical supplies and equipment. CCAC provides placement in long-term care facilities, home and school health, services for children with special needs, oncology program for terminally ill, assessments for government funded day away programs and supportive housing services. Case Managers determine eligibility for drug coverage under the Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) Plan. |
