Volunteers provide hospital visits, school programs, support groups for clients and family members, encourage positive attitudes and awareness towards those who look different.ARTCITE INC Description: Artcite is an artist-run centre for experimental and contemporary art forms. Artcite operates an art gallery, information and equipment resource centre and has resources to assist artists and organizations with grant applications. Volunteer opportunities are available. It also houses Windsor’s non-profit “House of Toast” (HOT) film and video collective which maintains a film and video “talent registry” of local artists, camera operators, editors, writers, musicians and sound and lighting technicians. Production and editing equipment available at nominal fee. CENTRES FOR SENIORS WINDSOR http://www.centresforseniors.org/ Description: The Centres Association strives to enable adults 55 years and better to reach their full potential by offering social, recreational, educational, volunteer and service opportunities through centrally located, accessible facilities in the Windsor area. The Society is a non-profit volunteer organization devoted to sheltering
and finding permanent homes for homeless cats and kittens through an
adoption program. Also being operated is a free spay/neuter clinic for
homeless cats. A reference library and counselling on cat care are
available. The organization
runs
seminars and lectures. A no-kill shelter is open at Tecumseh Rd E and
Howard Ave. The group also offers pet loss counselling as requested. Christmas Kettle Program http://ontario.salvationarmy.ca/ Description: Salvation Army community services centre that provides individuals with personal and family assistance in many areas of community need.UNITED WAY/CENTRAIDE OF WINDSOR-ESSEX COUNTY Description: The Volunteer Centre interviews and refers volunteers, promotes volunteerism, trains volunteer managers through Fundamentals of Volunteer Management and Advanced Volunteer Management programs and consults in volunteer management. WINDSOR PUBLIC LIBRARY (Windsor Volunteers for Literacy, Central Library) http://www.windsorpubliclibrary.com/services/index.php Description: Adults learn basic reading and writing skills. The program helps bring students to a Grade 5-6 level using one-on-one tutoring. Students are taught Laubach method of reading (based on phonics). Students and volunteers meet twice weekly for 4 hours each week. The program offers continuous entrance. Volunteer training workshops are available 3 times per year. |
